Dress Coded
As you know, all schools have dress codes.
Some of the schoolâs dress codes are harsher than others. The Steinfeld school is a perfect example of a harsh and not so harsh dress code. It is kind of in the middle. For example, you cannot wear short shorts, you are not allowed to wear strapless shirts or miniskirts and/or mini dresses. You are not allowed to wear short crop tops either.
It is pretty much a normal dress code, minus all clothing items that would not be school appropriate.
Now, this is where you will meet our main character who started a big scheme in the school.
Megan Stanley.
Megan is a 13-year-old girl, almost a full teen. This year Megan was going into grade 8. Megan has dirty blonde hair that was just a bit longer than shoulder length. Megan has beautiful silver eyes that sparkles in the sun light and, has long luscious lashes.
She has black braces so they would go perfectly with all her outfits.
Megan would always wear her favourite pair of  white sneakers,  with every outfit she wore. Megan was not too tall, but she was not too short. Megan was known for her kindness and amazing compliments; she is outgoing and always has a smile on her face! Not to mention, she has amazing style!
Meganâs style was all ways amazing, but she did not have much of a clothing bubble, meaning that she never went out of her comfort zone. She would always just wear a nice top and some leggings, as she grew older her style bubble has extended. Megan now has nice tops, jeans, new sweaters, crop tops, and even new shoes! She was so excited to show everyone her new clothes!
This is when Meganâs new nickname comes into play. The code breaker.
You will soon find out why she is now being called that once you read the rest of the storyâŚ.
It was the First day of school and Megan was walking to school, she lives 10 minutes away from the school but she likes to exercise so instead of her mom or dad driving her she leaves earlier so she can walk.
Megan was about 2 and a half minutes away from school when a sixth grader walked up beside her to compliment her outfit. Megan looked down and the sixth grader, because the kid was way shorter than her. So she had to look down to make eye contact and she proceeded to say â thank you!, I like you outfit as wellâ, and proceeded to walk to school while the sixth  grader ran to catch up to her friends.
Megan got to the school and a girl in the same class as her complimented her outfit.
Megan was wearing her favourite pair of white sneakers, light ripped jeans that rolled up past her ankle. She wore a white short crop top with a blue butterfly in the top center of the shirt and has her hair up in a half pony with little braids on each side.
Megan entered the class, and sat down at a desk in the middle. She was talking to the people around her when she turned and noticed Miss Jones at the front of the class with her arms crossed and an annoyed look on her face. She was looking directly and Megan.
Megan could tell by the look on Miss. Jones face that she was going to be in some trouble, and she knew exactly why.
Megan looked at her and gave her an innocent smile then proceeded to pull a book out of her desk and got up to put it in the class bookshelf. After the book was put away, she reached down to her backpack and pulled out her own book called âThe Mockingbirdâ and began to read while she waited for class to start.
Megan was half done her book when Miss Jones brought attention to the class when she said âMegan Stanley, I would like to see you in the hallwayâ out loud. Miss Jones proceeded to walk out to the hallway and Megan followed behind her.
In the hallway Miss. Jones said to Megan âAre you aware that you are breaking dress code Megan?â Megan continued by saying âno I was unaware I was. How, may I ask, am I breaking dress code?â
Miss Jones continued by explaining that her crop top was too short for school; hence, breaking dress code. Miss Jones said that it would be alright if she has a sweater to put over or a spare shirt to change into. Miss Jones then proceeded to walk back to class. Megan went to her locker and took out a grey hoodie and put it on, then walked back to class.
The rest of the day was good except for the fact that she got hot during class because of her sweater and it did not help that her classroom was the one with the heat always on.
The next day, Megan showed up with her favourite white sneakers, black ripped jeans, and a tan colored strapless top; She wore her hair up in a bun. Today, the teacher called her to the hall again.
This time Miss. Jones explained the whole dress code to her so she would not keep getting dress coded every day. Today Miss Jones explained that she was not allowed to wear strapless and/or sleeveless tops in school.
Miss. Jones asked her to put on a sweater but Megan explained to her that she did not have a sweater at school today because all her sweaters were in the laundry bin at home. Because of this, she sent Megan to the office instead of her having to go all day at school violating the schools dress code.
Once Meagan got to the office the principle was already calling her parents to come pick her up, so he could inform them on the situation and explain to them what she can and cannot wear to school.
Meganâs parents arrived about 15 minutes later and was led to the office by the principle. The principle explained the whole dress code to the parents and asked if they had already known the rules of it; they both said yes. The principle asked them that if they knew the rules, why did they let Megan go to school wearing things they knew she was not allowed to wear. Meganâs parents explained that they have already left the house for work before Megan wakes up and gets ready for school so they donât know what she wears until she comes home from school and they get back from work.
After 20 minutes, the principle and Meganâs parents ended their conversation and Meganâs parents drove her home and dropped her off while they went back to work.
Once Megan got home, she made herself some food and ran up the stairs and into her bedroom.
Megan thought that she should be able to wear what she wants without someone telling her to put a sweater on or to change. Just because the school board does not want you distracting anyone. Megan thought that some people should have some respect for others bodyâs, and keep their eyes to themselves.
After about five minutes, Megan finished her food and went one her phone. She watched YouTube for a little bit then decided to text her friends hoping that they would get the message soon seeming as they get out of school in five minutes. She typed âGUYS…YOU NEED TO COME OVER NOW…â and hit send. A few minutes later they responded by saying that they were on their way.                                                                       Meagan had a plan. A plan that could get her and her friends in trouble, but she did not care. She wanted to protest in what she believed in.
After 10 minutes went by, Meganâs friendâs Echo and Ivy showed up at her house. They rang the doorbell and Megan ran down the stairs to get the door and then brought the girls up to her room.
They all sat down, and Megan started to explain her thoughts on dress code and so on.
She then started to explain the plan she had in mind and if they would help her.
Her friends agreed on the plan.
Meganâs plan was to gather everyone in the school except for the teachers and staff of the School and get them to protest the dress code and their rights to where what they want.
They would do this by getting all the younger grades to sneak their dress coded items in their backpacks to school on Wednesday of the next week and change into them when they get there. For the rest of the kids whose parents leave before they go to school, they will just get ready at home.
They decided that Ivy would get all the kindergarteners and grade 1-2s in on the plan, Echo would do the 3-4s and 5s, And Megan would do the 6s and 7-8s.
The rest of the week ran by quickly while the three girls waited anxiously for their day to come.
The girls spent the weekend together talking about their plan and before they knew it, it was already Monday. Monday was boring and flew by fast, but Tuesday had some drama. Secret drama.
On Tuesday, the teacherâs pet âNaomiâ had other plans. She told the girls that she was in on the plan and was going to help them but that was not the case. Naomi had to do everything right. Had to get straight Aâs. Had to follow every single little rule. Had to be perfect. And Naomi did not like Meganâs little scheme so at the end of the day she went to Miss Jones and snitched on Megan and her friends.
Miss Jones formed a meeting with all the teachers and staff and told them what was going on.
Now, the teacher and staff had a plan. A brilliant plan. The teachers plan was to join the kids on their scheme. They were going to do this by dressing like them. They were going to come to school in mini dresses and shorts, skirts, crop tops, tutus, all sorts of things. Megan had no idea this was coming.
On Wednesday, when all the kids in the school entered the classroom the teachers were not there. All the kids sat down at their spots confused as to why there were no teachers in the classrooms. A few minutes later the intercoms in the classrooms came on like they would in the morning when they get their announcements. Instead of ten announcements saying the weather and what sport events are going on today, the principle announced for all students to head down to the gym for an important assembly.
All the kids took a seat on the gym floor and you could hear whispering throughout the whole room; there was then a large bang and the gym went silent until music started to Blare out of the back speakers in the gym, piercing peoples ears. Then the speakers in the front of the gym started playing music too and all of a sudden the school staff and teacher âmarchâ onto stage in a row wearing the skirts and shorts and crop tops.
The kids were stunned. They just stared at the teachers while the music blared like they had seen a ghost. The music slowly lowered untill there was no sound at all. It was silence throughout the gym; so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
All of a sudden there was another piecing noise, the noise that the microphones make when you turn them on. Next thing you know, Miss Jones was standing by the mic and talked into it saying âCan Megan Stanley please stand up and make your way to the stage, Megan Stanley please make your way to the stageâ. Megan froze for a few minutes until Miss. Jones spoke out again âMegan Stanley, please come to the stageâ.
Megan stood up and walked nervously to the stage. Once she got up on the stage, Miss Jones put her face to the mic and asked âMegan, do you have any idea possible on whatâs going on here?â. Instead of telling he truth, Megan told Miss. Jones she did not know what was going on. All teachers knew that was a lie, so they stared at her in silence until Mrs. Lynne spoke out.
Mrs. Lynne spoke out and said â Megan, if you couldnât already tell, we wanted to join your little, or shall I say, big group seeming as you wanted the whole school In on your little planâ. Megan had looked shocked, she looked up from the ground and asked âhow did you know?â with a confused look on her face. Just then Mr. Smith took a step out from his spot and told Megan that she did not need to know how they found out and that it was the teacherâs little secret.
After that, they told Megan to sit down back at her spot on the gym floor.
For the rest of that day they had an assembly talking about the school dress code. Of course, Megan did not agree with anything they were saying but she kept her thoughts to herself to be respectful but still had her own thought on it.
From this day on, Megan became âthe code breakerâ.
Now, you know why.
